Ikea hack - magnetic board

Well it didn't turn out quite the way I wanted it. I painted the white side of the board with black magnetic paint ( 5 coats!) and then painted it green and white, but I didn't dare give more than one coat of white for fear that the magnetic "effect" would weaken..

The knight's cape tutorial

Further to my previous post and the great "Costume box" online class, here comes a quick visual tutorial to make in no time a cape for my knight :-)

You will need to fold in half a piece of fabric with the dimensions herebelow

Anne shows how to sew the cape with lining, it looks gorgeous and is actually easier to do than without, because then one has to hem all the sides to give the cape a "finished" look.

In the end I added a button and an elastic as closing mechanism but it could be anything

The knight's crown tutorial

I just enrolled in my first craftsy class two days ago called "the Costume box" by Anne Weil. It was a fantastic series of explanatory videos to make your own costumes for boys and girls, with a very cheerful teacher who gives tons of tips along the way. I can warmly recommend it, she has plenty of easy to do projects made for the busy moms that we all are :-)

One of the projects I completely fell for was the knight costume, I cooked up a quick little visual tutorial, mainly to make myself some pointers to do it again in the future, but for more detailed explanations you can watch the class for only 10USD, totally worth it.

The idea is to use a piece of soft cardboard (ex: cereal box) dimensions required: 40x9 cm
And cut the following shape out of it:

Then we sew it to a piece of fabric and trim
tip: glue the fabric to the cardboard first so that it stays in place

Then sew the elastic

And decorate

Paint on t-shirt with freezer paper

We painted on both sides of the t-shirt with the reverse image of the P on the back, I like the kind of "rough" look of it.

Craft with kids - sticky exercise

Love, love, love this website - no time for flash cards - where you can find fun and easy activities to do with your kids by age and a section to teach them the alphabet and the numbers.

We've tried the  toddler butterfly craft with the shapes of a train and a car, it was a sucess (^-^)

Boys Month: Boden T-shirt DIY - the Pteranodon

A friend of mine introduced me to these super cool t-shirts from Boden, I especially liked the one with the dinosaur walking in the streets of London, so here is my quick DIY using freezer paper to make the skyline.

Boys Month 2012 - Cooking chef costume

My boy is currently obsessed with cooking and little kitchenettes, he thus needed the proper outfit...

I used the tutorial for the Chef's hat from "Celebrate creativity" but instead of gathering the fabric at the base of the hat, I made pleats.

Boys month 2012 - Baby bibs - Hagesmække

Here it comes once again, the fantastic Boys Month organised by Frk Turkis, where you can get loads of inspiration for things to make for the boys :-)

I have some fun projects in store to celebrate this month, and here comes the first idea I got from a mother of my mothergroup, who ingeniously just sew some bias tape on a wash cloth and turned it into a bib, so smart, I had to do it too :-)

Some quick, easy and cheap bibs to make for the baby

ABC bean bags

I used the following tutorial from the Crafty Cupboard (found via Pinterest) except that I couldn't paint the letters so I cut them out of some white fabric and sewed them on.

Bunk bed decoration

We bought a bunk bed with a pirate theme for the kids' room, but we finally agreed that there was too much black for small children so decided to change theme and go for a "green-forestry" style instead, so I did some envelope pillow covers (tutorial from Crafty Gemini) and some loooooong green "sausage pillows" out of cheap blankets found at tiger.
