My Ikea-Tiger solution for the children's closet

We bought one of these infamous ikea-pax cupboards to host all the baby/toddler clothes. We used the shelving system that's 25 cm wide and found out that the baskets we get from "tiger" fit perfectly in that space, here is the final result with some very visual labelling

I am very happy to participate with a quicky tutorial for a very handmade and delicate mobile :-)

For a live tutorial on how to make paper boats here is a video from Howcast

Regarding the dimensions of the rectangles fabric, I used the following ratio: Length/Width = 0,7 which is the ratio of an A4 paper sheet.

First I cut two rectangles and sewed them wrong sides together with a loose zigzag stitch, this allows to always have the nice side showing when folding it.

Then I follow the instructions on how to make the origami paper boat, carefully pressing at each step (this is key to the process!)

At this stage I make a few stitches to sew together the sides folded, where the red cross is on the following picture, on both sides, it helps the boat to keep it's shape in the end.

Then I took some quite stiff wire: two 20 cm long pieces and folded them with my pliers like so:

I then attached 5 blue threads, with which I'll attach the boats to the mobile.

Bathroom towel for kids - "a la montessori"

When renovating our bathroom we thought it would be a good idea to have a double sink so that our son could try brush his teeth and wash his hands on his own.

As the towels were out of his reach, I sewed a mini bath towel and hanged it at his level under the sink

Sommer season coming it also means for me the beginning of the hay fever season with the consumption of 3 tissue packs per day raising the problem of where to store all these used tissues until the next time I encounter a bin.... so I decided this year, at last, to make my own portable "tissue bin" a light fabric pocket that folds on itself as a "closing mechanism", I sewed a very light ribbon on it so I can just wrap it around my neck and shoulder and almost not feel I'm carrying it

Fabric houses game

A new game for my son, big fabric houses to place next to each other, attached by a velcro "scratch" which creates this beautiful "christianshavn canal" scenery :-)

On the side of each house, I have sewed some velcro scratch and the bottom of the houses are filled with a bag full of lenses so that they would stand on their own.

The HOW TO

First the pattern: one can use any shape of house, note that the distance x on the "front/back of the house" piece, is to be reported on the pattern of the "side of the house" like shown on the pictures.

First I choose two fabrics that I sew together to make the front/back pieces and the roof, same for the side pieces of the house

I then cut the pieces with 5 mm of seam allowance. Cut the decorations and start sewing them on the front pieces

Sew two velcro straps on the side pieces

Then I sew all four sides together along the dotted line. I don't sew until the end of the roof piece but stop 5 mm before the end.

And finally the bottom/base. I cut a square that was 1cm larger than the measurement of the width of the house (including 2x5mm seam allowance). Then pin and sew only from seam to seam, so as to be able to sew 3 sides - as per the orange dotted line.

Finished result, that needs to be turned inside out, from the fourth side of the base that has been left open

Now I sew a little cushion, with two squares of the same dimension as the one cut for the base, I sew it along the green dotted line, cut the corners, turn it inside out

Fill it with lenses and machine stitch along the yellow dotted line

I then fill the house with filling material, until it is fully stuffed. Then I insert the "lenses bag" at the bottom and handstitch the opening.

Done!

Found this tutorial on youtube from Icvday on how to sew fitted sheet, thought it would be perfect to apply the same concept to a waterproof clothes I had lying around for some time now.

Fastelavn again, this time the creche is making a little party for the kids, exciting! This year our little angel will be a pirate, until he can speak... it's mommy who decides :-D

For the hat I totally fell in love with threadbanger's episode on the pirate costume for girl tutorial, I simplified the edges folding of the outer circle: folded three sides along the dotted lines and then stitched a little cross in the middle of the folded edge attaching it to the "inner hat"

I bought an oversized white buttoned shirt (size 12yrs old) on sale for 30 kr, cut the extra length of the sleeves and shirred the ends to give it this fluffy looks (two rows), and also shirred (in red) the back of the shirt so that it would fit him better as it is so big (5-6 rows)

I bought some black and white pants on sale and cut triangles out, to give it a worn out look

The vest is from H&M and was bought on sale, the good thing is that fastelavn comes rigth after the sales!

I also added a strip of red fabric across his chest to contrast with all this black and white and serve as a sword holder

tried to replicate it, here is what I think looks more like a cup of tea but still has this cuteness about it

the way I did it

I used this tutorial : "flat circle with single crochet " to make the bottom of the cup, ending with 18 sts.

Then crochet the first row inserting the hook only on the inside loop

For each row sc in each st, sl st in the last one , chain one
I do this about 10 times

Crochet the "yellow circle" representing the tea, the same way as the bottom of the cup

Fill the cup with filling material

I then attach the "tea cover" to the cup by crochetting bother of them together with the green yarn.
I finish off with a round of sc in each st.

Knit an I-cord for the handle and sew it on the cup

I recently came across this book at the library: "Hæklede firkanter" from Bente Lavsen, where I found this idea of maknig a cube out of crocheted granny squares

So I first tried to do a cube and stuffed it with the usual white stuffing I use for amigurumi, but it didn't look too good, although it doesn't really show on the picture.

This is a trick I learned from my mother to prolong the life of a balloon, using the remaining pieces, creating a vacuum with your mouth so as to shape a mini balloon, twist the end, tie a thread and voila

This is what went toVisitsen for the Pakkekalender swap.

She mentioned in her previous posts that the color of the moment was sth close to pink/pale purple, so I made some christmas tree decorations in these tones, wrapped in a handmade little pocket

I used a bag bought at "Søstrene Grene" and converted it into a pocket, so I had at hand a matching zipper and handles to make a matching bow

The tutorial for the knitted balls is from "I like lemon"

These were the most challenging to do as I am not too good at knitting and moreover with two colors! I'm quite happy with the result :-)

Then I used an idea seen on the christmas issue of "Crafts Beautiful magazine" , a genius idea using wires of different dimensions !

And at last decorations made out of salt dough and covered with some paint I found in Panduro that imitates the effect of snow

But because I only had very few orange yarn, I had to size down the pumpkin and make it mini, so what I did is row 1 4 sc into the ring, then I went on row 2, 3 and 4, directly knitted a row 7 and 8 and then decreased with row 10 and 11, then row 12 with brown yarn.

I went to the babymessen last weekend, where I saw Tine Mynster perform and I fell in love with her songs. Yesterday night I needed to wrap a gift for a newborn baby but only had craft paper at hand, so I used fabric wrapping string to give it a softer look - I teared two strips of fabric

to do so you just cut a slit with a scissor along the length of your fabric and just tear it by hand, it gives a perfect band with a nice raw edge

One of the strip was not long enough so I had to tear two strips and sew them together

Then I just rolled a bit the two strips together and wrapped the gift

Mr. Guapo recently purchased this book "Leg & lær, 1001 sjove aktiviteter til børn fra 0-6 år" because it was assessed that we need to stimulate our child... mmm.. so here we are Mr. Cutie Pie and I trying to make a tambourine :

First we gathered two paper plates on which he could draw

Then according to the book we had to take some cornflakes, let him put them on one of the plate, but what actually happened is him almost eating all the cornflakes...

so after some tough battle to get them on the plate and not in his mouth, I quickly sealed the two plates together with some hot glue.

Again according to the book one has to then play with the tambourine with some background music and show to the child how to beat the rythme, what actually happened is him desperatly trying to open it and get to the cornflakes

He eventually opened the damn tambourine! Stakkels lille dreng :-)

PS: on my book the authors are Dr. Roni Cohen Leiderman and Dr. Wendy S. so I assume there is an english version, the curious thing is that on the web I found the same book with the same cover pictures where the author is Susan Elisabeth, go figure

Another contribution to the scrap month of Frk Turkis, I had to try this from Cocon, hers are so precious!

Once again Frk Turkis came up with a great idea: the scrap month ! So here is my little contribution: I took the idea from ComfortStitching - scrap happy lounging , illustrated the steps with some pics and used the project as an applique to this cute shoebag from makingitfun.blogspot.com (tutorial) .

Here it goes: the final result

1. my bunch of fabric scraps

2. a matching thread

3. an elephant template that I drew on the wrong side of a piece of fabric

4. on the right side of the fabric I started sewing my little fabric scraps in a random way

5. until the whole area was covered

6. then I cut out the elephant

7. Applied it on the piece of fabric (applique) that I used to make the shoebag

and done!

PS: sorry for the quality of the pics sth went wrong with my cam...

Oh wow it's so exciting we just had some fantastic time me and my little boy with a great craft prject from Made by Joel (paper clip puppets) - I just cut the shapes and he "drew on it", it was lots of fun

From time to time I like to try out the super cool recipes from Kvalimad (youtube channel) , he recently posted a video on how to make your own homemade soda! He has a link to his website with more info it's easily understandable without prior knowledge of the danish language ;-p

What a nice surprise I got recently from the post! I participated in a swap game with Frk Turkis, she has spoiled us all!!! She can sew fantastic things, here they are in a very cute wrapping pocket
